Mytilineos breaks ground on 75MW solar project in Australia

Greek renewable energy developer Mytilineos has announced that construction has started on the Wyalong solar farm in New South Wales, Australia.

The 75MW solar project will generate enough electricity to power approximately 27,000 Australian homes and has already concluded a long-term power purchase agreement with NBN Co, an Australian Government Business Enterprise.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Ian Kirkham, general manager EPC & director for the Oceania Region, stated that Mytilineos is proud to be contributing to Australia’s clean energy future, by investing more than $500m into the development and construction of solar farms in the country: “We are excited about the path ahead in Australia’s energy transition away from fossil fuel power generation and we are committed to further establish our strategic presence in the country”.

The PPA is the first for NBN Co as part of its commitment to purchase 100% renewable electricity by December 2025.

According to Mytilineos, 150 local jobs will be created on-site during the solar farm’s construction, which will last approximately six months.

Mytilineos has a growing portfolio within Australia. Currently, the firm manages about 750MW, including 118MW in operation, 262MW under construction, 11MW are ready to build (RTB) or expected RTB within the next 6 months, and 260MW in various stages of development.
